Walkman

3D Motion
After Effects

Check out our latest project – a creatively reimagined take on the iconic Sony Walkman (the world's first one).
Not a promotional piece, not only a tribute, but rather an experiential creation.

We delved into the essence of modern retro, steering away from the well-explored realms of 3D beauty product presentations. No predefined templates, just a fresh perspective featuring a subtle touch of motion blur and unconventional shots.
From conceptualization to editing, we managed all the creative aspects in-house,
aiming to inject some innovative elements into product animation.

A special shoutout to Zelig Sound for curating the perfect audio vibes to complement our unique style.

Process & R&D

____

In this project, we aimed to deviate from the norms, what required a creative approach to seeking inspiration and planning shots.
We've opened ourselves to ideas beyond the realm of 3D, drawing inspiration, among others, from music videos.

Motion blur was implemented directly in the 3D environment in Cinema 4D.
This decision, while significantly increasing rendering time, contributed to heightened realism.

The simulations of the expanding sponge and tape movements were achieved using Houdini. Recreating tape movements involved finding a suitable flexibility for realistic wrapping. The expanding sponge presented a unique challenge: ensuring the texture expanded proportionally with the geometry (without the effect of the 'floating texture').

In the final scene, preserving motion blur during slow movements was achieved by strategically using three pairs of headphones.
They momentarily spread out and then converged, creating the illusion of motion blur despite the gradual movement.
